KItchen Cabinets

The cabinets are being installed in the kitchen. These cabinets are under the serving window which opens into the fellowship hall.

The new kitchen is going to be a wonderful additional to the new space. For the last several years we have "made-do" with the old gym kitchen. This new space will allow the congregation to gather for food, fun, and fellowship.

Bring in the Painters!

There is no picture for today's post. On Friday and Saturday the sheet rock workers were busy sanding down the last of the rough spots. The interior walls (with a few exceptions) are now ready for the painters who will arrive on Monday morning.

The painting crew will prime the walls and then apply two coats of paint. The first coat will be done immediately and the final coat will be applied after all of the flooring and fixtures have been installed. This is being done so that the last coat of paint will be free from the bumps, dings, and dents that happen with so many people working inside the building. Also this week: tile work in the restrooms and EC classrooms; after a final inspection, ceiling tiles; more cabinetry installed; light fixture installation; final details completed in the youth room.

Beautiful Fixtures

The fellowship space is now starting to see several bits of detail. Early this week one of the light fixtures was hung for inspection. The room has both recessed dimming lights and then these elegant hanging lights. This new space will certainly be wonderful as we gather together for food and fellowship.

All that Space!

Do you remember the old church office workroom? If you do, you will remember how small and inefficient it was. Not any more. The new church workroom is taking shape and all of the cabinets and counter top space will be a real blessing to all who work and volunteer in the office.

Chiller On

On Tuesday, after working to get all the particulates out of the system, the final touches were made to the new chiller system and it was fired up. The building is now being cooled and the workers much appreciate a break from the heat.

Commons

Over the last few days a lot of ceiling work has been done throughout the building. The space has a combination of solid and drop in (tile) ceilings. In the commons the ceiling is taking shape and the picture helps to define the size and feel of the space. This will be the informal gathering space for the congregation.

Classroom Detail

The west classrooms are taking shape. Every day it seems that another bit of detail is being finished. Today the plastic laminate on the walls along with the cabinet work began. Here you can see the color of one of the classrooms. Each room has a primary color that is then accented by others. The rooms will be bright and vibrant; a wonderful environment for young children.

Welcome to MLCS

The new sign on Westheimer is finished. The new brickwork, lettering, and digital sign really do look great. Now that the power is on we hope to have the sign up and going within the next few days. Again, may the Lord bless us as we welcome and invite our community to join us in praising the crucified and resurrected Christ.

Let there be Light!

Today the final power connections were made with the city of Houston. Tomorrow morning we will officially have the new power service in the new building. This means that all sorts of work will be able to proceed. Most importantly, the chiller system will be activated so that we can begin air-conditioning the building so that other detail work (such as painting) can begin. This is certainly a huge moment as our building goes live. Bring on the power.

Our New Westheimer Face

Today, National Sign Company has been working on the installation of the new sign that will welcome visitors from Westheimer. The digital sign will give us the versatility to keep information current and will improve our visibility to Westheimer traffic.

As well as the digital sign the new brick base will have letters installed that read: Memorial Lutheran Church and School.

May the Lord bless our efforts in spreading the gospel to those around us.

Brick Finishing

Today the masonry workers have been working around the outside of the building finishing off detail work. There were several places where the brick work was not finished for several reasons (here they are completing the unfinished worked that was the result of the fire sprinkler installation).

Now that the exterior of the building is almost complete we get a great feel for how the building fits in with the rest of the campus.

Sidewalks Poured

Thursday morning the concrete finishing crew was on-site to work on sidewalks on the south side of the new building.

They poured the main sidewalk into the new building as well as the sidewalk leading from the covered drop-off to the west sanctuary door. They also poured a new sidewalk running along the south-west side of the sanctuary leading out into the new parking lot. This Sunday the sidewalks will be open for use.

Today they continue framing up sidewalks around the campus. The plan is that another sidewalk pour will take place early next week.

New Aerial View

Today we received an updated aerial view of the property. I am continually amazed at how quickly the work is progressing.

Early today several of the sidewalls were poured around the front of the new building. By Sunday people will have a new path upon which to enter the church.
